Conference Carolinas Names 2018 Fall Scholar Athletes of the Year

High Point, N.C.Conference Carolinas is proud to announce the 2018 Fall Scholar Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the Student-Athlete Affairs Committee. This prestigious award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Candidates are submitted by member institutions for each of the conference’s twenty-three sponsored sports. To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must have been named Academic All-Conference, which entails having attended their member institution for at least one year and having reached junior or senior standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4-point scale. Scholar Athletes of the Year must also be represented on their sport’s First, Second, or Third All-Conference Team, the rosters of which are chosen by coaches at the end of each playing season.  This fall's class of honorees holds an impressive average GPA of 3.75.  
 
 
 

Men’s Soccer Award Winner
Pol Vassart - Lees-McRae College

Pol Vassart, the 2018 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year, led the conference in goals this season with 15 and points with 39, while being tied for second in the league in assists with nine. In conference play, Vassart totaled seven goals and five assists for 19 points, which was the highest total of any individual within Conference Carolinas. Vassart paced the conference in most offensive categories for most of the season. Among many honors, Vassart was recently named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region second team, and was also named a third team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American. After the season, he was also named to the Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team, Google Cloud Academic All-District squad and Google Cloud Academic All-America Team. Achieving excellence both in the classroom and on the field, Vassart holds a 3.64 GPA in the business administration program at Lees-McRae.
