Pfeiffer’s Alyssa Wombwell Named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
High Point, N.C.> Pfeiffer University’s Alyssa Wombwell
has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas
women’s soccer Player of the Week during week number nine in
the 2011 season. The senior from Grand Blanc, MI put together a
solid final week of the regular season with a goal and three
assists in a 1-1 week for Lady Falcon soccer. Playing in her final
two collegiate home games, Wombwell started the week with a goal
and two assists against North Greenville in a 6-0 clean sheet; she
scored the third goal before assisting on goals four and five. On
Saturday's Senior Day vs. Queens University of Charlotte, Wombwell
contributed to the only goal for Pfeiffer with a spot on pass from
midfield to a streaking Rachael Shapelow downfield through the
Royals defense to score the equalizer. In the week, Wombwell
notched another goal and five more points adding to her own school
records broken in the last two weeks. Wombwell leads the team in
all three offensive categories. Pfeiffer is now 9-9-1 overall and
7-4-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
