CONFERENCE CAROLINAS ANNOUNCES SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 

Mount Olive's White Named Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, October 11, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Mount Olive's Carly White has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Player of the Week during week number six in the 2011 season.  White averaged 4.82 kills, 1.00 blocks and 6.01 points per set to help lead Mount Olive to a 3-0 mark last week, all in conference play. After starting the week in fifth place in the East Division standings, the Trojans jumped to third place - only 1 1/2 games out of second place - and back in the running for a spot in the conference tournament. The Ash, NC native matched a career high with 22 kills in a four-set win at Coker. She compiled a .471 hitting percentage in the match and also had five blocks. White opened the week with 13 kills and only three errors (.455) in a three-set win over Barton. She capped the week with an 18-kill performance in a win at St. Andrews. The Trojans are on a four-match winning streak and have won five of their last six matches. Mount Olive is 9-10 overall and 5-6 in Conference Carolinas play.

Lees-McRae's Galvani Earns Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, October 11, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Lees-McRae's James Galvani has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player of the Week during week number six in the 2011 season. Galvani, a sophomore from High Wycombe, England paced the Bobcats to a 2-0 worksheet last week, scoring three goals and tallying one assist. On Tuesday, he notched the first goal of the match against Carson-Newman before providing the assist on the winner three minutes later. Galvani then led the Bobcats to a pivotal 2-1 win over Queens on Saturday, scoring a pair of masterful goals for his first brace of the season. The 6-3, 175-pound forward currently leads the team with four goals, three assists, and 11 points. The Bobcats now stand at 7-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Belmont Abbey's Mateo Named Women's Soccer Player of the Week

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, October 11, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Belmont Abbey's Rebecca Mateo has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week during week number six in the 2011 season. The senior from Cotati, CA scored six goals on ten shots in three matches this week, all Abbey wins. The six goals are her first six of the year. In the win over Brevard, Mateo scored two goals in the 4-0 win. Two days later in the win over Barton, she scored the first two goals of the match, both coming in the first 11 minutes, leading the Abbey to a 5-1 win. She closed the week with a two goal effort in the 6-0 win over Converse. The Crusaders currently are 6-1 in league play and 7-6 overall.
