Lees-McRae Women's Volleyball Earns Bid to NCAA Tournament, will Face Wingate Friday

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team has punched its 12th ticket to the NCAA Division II women's volleyball championship, and will face host and top-seeded Wingate University as the eighth seed in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Thursday evening.

Lees-McRae (27-8) won the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament titles for the third straight season, posting its second consecutive 18-0 record in conference play under the direction of Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year Wes Schneider. The Bobcats swept Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday afternoon to clinch the program's 13th conference tournament title.

Wingate (30-0) is the top seed and host, as Flagler College (28-6) earns the second seed, followed by Armstrong Atlantic State University (35-2), and Catawba College (23-7). Lincoln Memorial University (22-6) is the fifth seed, followed by Tusculum College (18-12), Newberry College (16-15), and Lees-McRae.

Armstrong Atlantic and Tusculum will kick off the regional at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 18, followed by the Flagler/Newberry matchup at 2:30 p.m. Catawba and Lincoln Memorial will take the court at 5 p.m., followed by Lees-McRae and Wingate at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of Armstrong and Tusculum will face the winner of Flagler and Newberry on Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by the winner of Catawba and Lincoln Memorial facing the winner of Lees-McRae and Wingate at 6:30 p.m. The regional championship match will be played on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Lees-McRae will return to the court on Friday when the eighth-seeded Bobcats square off against the top-seeded Wingate Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship at 7:30 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will be participating in the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. Eight teams were selected from each of the following eight regions: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West.

Championship Information

Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, Dec. 1-3.

Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches. The finals site will be held on the campus of one of the eight advancing teams. The site and host institution for the finals site will be announced November 20.
