2011 DAKTRONICS NCAA DIVISION II ALL-SOUTHEAST REGION
VOLLEYBALL TEAM ANNOUNCED
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Daktronics, Inc. and the
Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
released today the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast
Region Volleyball teams. Wingate senior setter Liz Willis (Raleigh,
N.C.) was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year while
Flagler paced all schools with four honorees, two on the first team
and two on the second team.
The 2011 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Willis
headlines a first-team that includes two players from all three
nationally-ranked Southeast Region schools – No. 14 Wingate,
No. 21 Armstrong and No. 24 Flagler. Wingate teammate and rightside
hitter Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) joins Willis on the first team
from the Bulldogs, while Flagler middle hitter Crystal Niederriter
(Merritt Island, Fla.) and outside hitter Dianna Craine (Oshawa,
Ontario) represent the Saints. Armstrong’s first-team
honorees are rightside hitter Brendyce Budd (Page, Ariz.) and
middle hitter Brittany Wolf (Bethlehem, Ga.) Tusculum libero
Caitlyn Dean (Fort Wayne, Ind.) rounds out the first team and is
the only first-team repeat honoree from 2010.
Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA
Division II All-America honors. The Daktronics NCAA DII teams are
voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) from the Southeast
Region, which is comprised of schools from Conference Carolinas,
the South Atlantic Conference and the Peach Belt Conference. The
online nomination and voting process is powered by
ATHLETICSITE.COM.
The second team features two more members of the Saints in
setter Olivia Snipes (Easley, S.C.) and libero Casey Gnann (Boca
Raton, Fla.). The outside hitters on the second team are
Wingate’s Cory McGowan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Armstrong’s
Jessica Santaniello (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Lees-McRae’s
Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.). A tie in the voting resulted
in three middle hitters earning second-team honors –
Carson-Newman’s Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.), Lincoln
Memorial’s Blaire Fowler (Fort Worth, Texas) and
Montevallo’s Manyi Ati (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world
leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for
virtually every sport at every level of competition.
