SPOKANE, Wash. –
The women’s cross country team at Queens University of
Charlotte, ranked 11
th in the nation, raced in the 2011
NCAA Championships this afternoon collecting a score of 372 taking
10
th place in the 24 team field. Augustana (S.D.) is the
NCAA Division II women's cross country national champion. The
Vikings earned the program's first national title and the school's
second overall team national championship with a score of 75. In
second place was Western State with a 70, while Grand Valley State
placed third with a score of 104.
Kimone
Hewitt (Orange County, Calif., Segerstown) (22:29.3)
and
Rosa
Young (Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dorman High
School) (22:35.0) led the Royals in 42
nd and 48
th place,
respectively, on a snowy Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex
course.
Andrea
Guerra (Anaheim, Calif., Loara) clocked in at
22:51.4 for a 57
th place finish. Wrapping up the
Royals’ scoring was
Mathilde
Timboni (Prévessin-Möens, France,
Prévessin-Möens) (24:18.9) and
Holly
Annas (Granite Falls, N.C., South
Caldwell) (24:32.7) at no. 139 and no. 147.
Leah Hanson led the Vikings, finishing 12th and running the
6,000-meter course in 21:40.40. Runa Falch finished directly behind
her teammate in 21:42.40; Kristin Brondbo (21:47.90) and Kyle
Blakeslee (21:53.30) rounded out this cluster of Augustana runners
by finishing 15th and 18th, respectively. Kelly Kougl finished
scoring by placing 29th in 22:08.40.
Shippensburg's Neely Spence took home the individual championship
with a time of 20:53.8.
