Limestone’s Hayes Named Women's Basketball Player of the Week
High Point, N.C. – Limestone College's Stephanie Hayes has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's basketball Player of the Week during week number two of the 2011-2012 season. Junior guard Stephanie Hayes continued her torrid start to the 2011-12 season, putting up career-highs in scoring in three of her first four games. After helping the Saints to a 59-49 win over Carson-Newman earlier in the week, Hayes responded with a career-high 26 points while also posting a team-high nine rebounds and six assists. She has three 20-point performances through the first four games of the season and currently holds the scoring lead in Conference Carolinas coming out of the gate. Trailing Catawba 60-56 with just over five minutes remaining in the game, Hayes poured in six points to fuel a decisive 15-3 run and would help Limestone close the game out on a 25-9 stretch. With the Indians holding a 10-point lead midway through the opening half, it was Hayes that got a sluggish Saints offense rolling as she knocked down a couple of key buckets to push the visitors to a 35-30 halftime lead. Limestone is 3-1 overall in the season.
