NCCSIA Announces 2011 College Division All-State Women’s Soccer Team
Raleigh, N.C. – Eleven student-athletes representing seven
institutions were selected to the ninth annual North Carolina
Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division
All-State women’s soccer team. Senior midfielder Kelly Adams
(pictured) from Wingate University was the highest vote getter in
all positions.
The team consists of student-athletes from NCAA Division II and
Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North
Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and
NCCSIA members selected the teams.
The All-State unit consists of one goalkeeper, three defenders,
four midfielders, and three forwards. All student-athletes involved
with ties in the voting process were included on the All-State
team.
The team is highlighted by three members from Lenoir-Rhyne
University and two each from Wingate University and the University
of North Carolina at Pembroke. Lees-McRae College, Meredith
College, Mt. Olive College and Pfeifer University also all gained
NCCSIA All-State selections.
Brittany Bennett from the University of North Carolina at
Pembroke took honors at goalkeeper. The sophomore from Seminole,
Fla. has also earned honors at First Team Daktronics All-Region,
First Team All-Peach Belt Conference and was unanimous Preseason
All-PBC. She led the All-Peach Belt Conference with 102 saves and a
.887 save percentage which ranks her 14th nationally.
The defender position was led by senior Catherine Hauck from
Lenoir-Rhyne University. The Lake Mary, Fla. native is a returning
member to the all state team as a part of the 2010 NCCSIA All-State
team as a midfielder. Hauck was a member of the 2011 Daktronics
NCAA Division II Southeast Region team and was named the South
Atlantic Conference Player of the Year. She finished second on the
team in goals (11) and points (26) this year and led Lenoir-Rhyne
to 17-3-1 record (9-0 in league play) and the conference regular
season championship.
The next defender is junior Fanny Forsman from the University of
North Carolina at Pembroke. The Borås, Sweden native gained
honors for the 2011 Daktronics Second Team All-Region, 2011 First
Team All-Peach Belt Conference and 2011 PBC All-Tournament
Team.
Rounding out the defenders is senior Mary Dorn from Lees-McRae
College. The Shallotte, N.C native helped Lees-McRae to a 13-5-3
record. She was named to the Daktronics all-Southeast Region 1st
team, All-Conference Carolinas 1st team and was fifth on the team
in goals and points.
Leading the midfielders is senior Kelly Adams from Wingate
University. Adams, the Matthews, N.C. native, was the highest vote
getter across all positions. She earned first team All-SAC &
All-Region and was named the SAC Tournament MVP. She led the nation
with 17 assists and helped Wingate rank fourth nationally in
scoring.
Earning her third year in a row on the NCCSIA team is midfielder
Alyssa Wombwell from Pfeiffer University. Wombwell, the native of
Grand Blanc, Mich., was a member of the 2009 and 2010 NCCSIA
All-State Teams. Wombwell gained first team All-Conference
recognition in Conference Carolinas as well as Daktronics
All-Southeast Region Second Team honors.
Rounding off the midfield, is junior Carley Griffin from
Lenoir-Rhyne University and sophomore Eliza Evans from Meredith
College. Griffin, a native of Fresno, Calif., finished second on
the team in goals (11) and third in points (25) and was a 2011
First-Team NCAA Division II Southeast Region and South Atlantic
Conference honoree. Evans, a Raleigh, N.C. native, led Meredith
with 13 goals which was good for third overall in the USA South
Athletic Conference and was also named to the 2011 USA South
Women's Soccer First Team.
The three forwards named to the team were led in the voting by
senior Laura Linehan from Lenoir-Rhyne University. The San Diego,
Calif. native was a 2011 First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference
honoree and Second-Team NCAA Division II Daktronics All-Southeast
Region pick. She led Lenoir-Rhyne in goals (12) and scoring (30)
this season including six game-winners . She helped the Bears win
the conference title, finish 17-3-1 on the year and earn a berth in
the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament.
Also named to the forward position is Jade Montgomery from
Wingate Unviersity. The Monroe, N.C. native was also named to the
first team All-SAC and, second Team All-Region and SAC All
Tournament. Montgomery was second in the SAC with 13 goals with six
of her goals came in the SAC Tournament, which included a hat trick
in the quarterfinal win over Catawba.
Finishing off the team at forward is Lindsey Stanley from Mount
Olive College. The Clearwater, Fla. native was tied for 5th in
nation in points per game and ranked 7th in nation in goals per
game. She was a 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and
two-time All-Conference Carolinas Second Team (2011, 2010).

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent
institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization
seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all
schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college,
university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area
of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCSSIA selects All-State teams for men's and women's soccer,
volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and
baseball on the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University
(Division I) levels. More than 650 student-athletes have been
recognized on NCCSIA All-State teams since 2003.
