 Mount Olive’s Long Named Women's Runner of the Week

High Point, N.C.> Mount Olive College’s Chelsea Long has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's cross country Runner of the Week during week number one in the 2011 season. Chelsea Long shattered an eight-year-old Mount Olive College women's cross country record for the fastest time in the 5k as she won the MOC Invitational for the second year in a row and helped lead the Trojans to the team title. Long posted a time of 18:31.80, eclipsing the previous record by more than 11 seconds and beating her own personal best by 16 seconds. Long, who finished first out of 24 runners, also won the event as a freshman last year.

 

 




 

 

Barton’s Serem Named Men’s Runner of the Week

High Point, N.C.>  Barton College’s Sammy Serem has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's cross country Runner of the Week during week number one in the 2011 season. Senior Sammy Serem set a personal record at the UNC Invitational on Friday, helping the Barton men's cross country team to a second place finish in the tri-meet defeating NCAA DI Gardner-Webb University by one point. Serem's sub-16 minute time of 15:23 was good for 6th place out of 26 harriers in the primary DI field. The Nindi Hills, Kenya, native averaged a 4:58 mile pace in his first meet on the year.
