Conference Carolinas Announces Volleyball Award Winners

High Point, NC> Conference Carolinas announces the All-Conference teams during this week's Conference Carolinas Championship Volleyball Tournament.  Awards include All-Conference First, Second, & Third teams, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Divisional Regular Season Champions.  Head coaches from conference member institutions nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the league.

  

The conference championships started Tuesday with the top eight teams qualifying for quarterfinal action.  Semifinal play resumes Friday with the championship final on Sunday.  All games are played at the highest remaining seed with the tournament Champion receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA DII championships.  Link to the women's volleyball championship page for more details.

 

Player of the Year 

Sandra Campbell, Erskine

Sandra Campbell was the Fleet's overwhelming leader in kills, hitting percentage and blocks this season.  She led Conference Carolinas in kills per set (3.92) and was ranked second in blocks per set (1.00) and fifth in hitting percentage (0.303).  Her play at the net has led to Erskine's third winning season since the program was resurrected three years ago. 

 

Co-Freshman of the Year

Melissa Cochran, Barton

Melissa Cochran made an immediate impact in Barton's lineup as the Bulldogs second leading hitter with 2.60 kills per set. The 6-foot-5 middle blocker from Knightdale, N.C. was ranked in the top-five of Conference Carolinas in both hitting percentage (.324) and blocks per set (0.91) as a freshman.

 

Sariah Suryadevara, Lees-McRae

Sariah Suryadevara has burst onto the conference and national scene this season, leading the league in digs per set (4.97) and service aces per frame this fall (0.87). The Cincinnati, Ohio native has averaged nearly one service ace per set in conference play this season, and currently ranks third on the program's all-time single-season digs list.

 

Coach of the Year

Wes Schneider, Lees-McRae

Wes Schneider has led the Bobcats to their second consecutive 18-0 season in conference play this fall, as Lees-McRae stretches its winning streak in league action to 49 straight matches. Under Schneider's guidance, the Bobcats captured the program's 13th Conference Carolinas regular season championship while earning the top overall seed in the conference tournament for the fifth time in the last six years.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletic conference currently made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Queens University of Charlotte.
