Lees-McRae's Clendenin Named Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

High Point, N.C.> Lees-McRae College's Taylor Clendenin has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Player of the Week during week number two in the 2011 season. The Statesville, N.C. native paced the Bobcats to a 2-2 record at the Tusculum Fall Classic this weekend, leading LMC to a pair of four-set wins against Montevallo and Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday before the Bobcats dropped a pair of hard-fought decisions to Francis Marion and host Tusculum on Saturday. The junior outside hitter averaged 3.65 kills per set over the course of the weekend, opening the two-day slate with a 15-kill performance in a 3-1 win over Montevallo. Clendenin followed with a 17-kill, seven-dig showing against Lenoir-Rhyne before posting a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs against Francis Marion on Saturday. She put together her best performance of the week against Tusculum on Saturday when she tallied 16 kills and one error for a .341 hitting percentage. For the year, Lees-McRae stands at 2-6 overall and 0-0 in league play.

Coker's Stiefield Claims Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, September 13, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Coker College's Eric Stiefield has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player of the Week during week number two in the 2011 season.  Coker junior forward Eric Stiefield led the Cobras offensive explosion against local rival Francis Marion University on Saturday by scoring a hat trick in the opening 22 minutes of the game. Two of his goals came in the first eight minutes of the match as the Cobras would go on to win the game 6-0. Stiefield is Coker's leading scorer and point leader with three goals and six points on the year. Earlier in the week Coker lost a hard fought battle to No. 2 nationally ranked Rollins College 1-0 to push their record to 2-1 (0-0 conference) for the year.

Mount Olive's McIntyre Named Women's Soccer Player of the Week

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, September 13, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Mount Olive College's Lyndsey McIntyre has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week during week number two in the 2011 season. McIntyre recorded 10 saves in Mount Olive's 1-1 double overtime tie against nationally 23rd-ranked UNC Pembroke, then posted a shutout against previously unbeaten Lincoln Memorial as the Trojans went 1-0-1 for the week. McIntyre posted a 0.45 goals against average for the week and limited UNC Pembroke to a single goal in 110 minutes. McIntyre faced 19 shots in the match, 11 on goal. UNC Pembroke entered the match with 17 goals in its first two matches. The tie was Mount Olive's best-ever result in program history against a nationally ranked team. In the Trojans' 1-0 win over perennial Southeast Region power Lincoln Memorial, McIntyre posted her 13th career shutout and lowered her season GAA to 0.93. UNC Pembroke and Lincoln Memorial entered the week with a combined 5-0 record. Mount Olive currently stands at 1-1-1 (0-0 conference) for the year.
