CONFERENCE CAROLINAS ANNOUNCES SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 

Erskine’s Campbell Named Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for Second Time

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, September 20, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Erskine College’s Sandra Campbell has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball Player of the Week during week number three in the 2011 season.  Erskine's Sandra Campbell had a .493 hitting percentage in leading the Flying Fleet to a 2-1 record, including two conference wins, this week. The senior middle hitter from Pilot Point, TX averaged 4.78 kills and 1.11 blocks per game for the week. Campbell currently leads Conference Carolinas in kills per game (4.28) and hitting percentage (.398). This is the second time this year Campbell has received this award, winning the honor also in week number one. Erskine is 7-5 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play.

King’s Winspear Earns Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, September 20, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> King College’s Tom Winspear has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men’s soccer Player of the Week during week number three in the 2011 season.  Winspear, a senior forward from Yarm, England, led the Tornado to their first ever Conference Carolinas victory and back-to-back victories this week behind a six-goal performance.  In a 4-3 win over area rival Lees-McRae, Winspear scored three goals on three shots on goal.  He followed that up with his second consecutive hat trick of the week, tallying three more goals on just three shots over conference foe Mount Olive.  For the week, Winspear totaled 13 points with two game winners, six goals, and one assist.  King now stands at 2-2-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Lees-McRae’s Thornton Named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, September 20, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.> Lees-McRae’s Meagan Thornton has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Player of the Week during week number three in the 2011 season. The freshman paced the Bobcats to a pair of impressive clean sheets in conference play last week, tallying the match-winner at King on Wednesday in the 4-0 win.  Thornton followed that up on Saturday against North Greenville as she went on to record her first career hat trick, scoring three goals in the 5-0 win over the Crusaders. The Millville, N.J. native is currently tied with teammate MaryBeth Sullivan for the conference and team lead with five goals and 11 points on the year.  The Bobcats currently are 3-0 in league play and 4-2 overall.
