Lees-McRae’s Thornton Named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

High Point, N.C.> Lees-McRae’s Meagan Thornton has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Player of the Week during week number three in the 2011 season. The freshman paced the Bobcats to a pair of impressive clean sheets in conference play last week, tallying the match-winner at King on Wednesday in the 4-0 win.  Thornton followed that up on Saturday against North Greenville as she went on to record her first career hat trick, scoring three goals in the 5-0 win over the Crusaders. The Millville, N.J. native is currently tied with teammate MaryBeth Sullivan for the conference and team lead with five goals and 11 points on the year.  The Bobcats currently are 3-0 in league play and 4-2 overall.
