Barton’s Riesenberg Earns Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award
High Point, N.C.> Barton College’s Brian Riesenberg has
been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas
men’s soccer Player of the Week during week number four in
the 2011 season. Senior goalkeeper Brian Riesenberg helped
the No. 10 Southeast Region ranked Barton men's soccer team to its
third and fourth consecutive wins with a pair of nearly perfect
performances in net. Riesenberg posted his first shutout of the
season in a 1-0 road win at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday.
Riesenberg highlighted the afternoon with a save on a Falcon
penalty kick attempt in the 85th minute that helped Barton preserve
the shutout, victory and three league points. Riesenberg added
eight more saves as Barton defeated conference preseason favorites
and previously league undefeated No. 10 regionally ranked Limsetone
College, 2-1, on Saturday. Riesenberg was closing in on his second
straight shutout but a foul call inside the Barton box in the last
minute of the game gave Limestone a penalty kick that they were
able to convert to break up the shutout bid. The Fort Thomas, Ky.,
product had a .941 save percentage on the week and has all six of
Barton's wins this season. The Bulldogs now stand at 6-1 overall
and 3-1 in league play.
