Mount Olive’s Stanley Named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
High Point, N.C.> Mount Olive’s Lindsey Stanley has
been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas
women’s soccer Player of the Week during week number four in
the 2011 season. Stanley became only the third player in Mount
Olive College women's soccer history to record hat tricks in
back-to-back matches and extended her goal-scoring streak to four
consecutive matches to help the regionally eighth-ranked Trojans
stretch their unbeaten streak to five and gain a share of the
Conference Carolinas lead. Stanley, who ended the previous week by
scoring all three goals in Mount Olive's 3-1 conference-opening win
over King (Sept. 17), scored three of the match's first four goals
in the Trojans' 10-0 win over St. Andrews, marking the Trojans'
first double-digit total since 2005. The match also marked the
first time in school history that two Trojans recorded hat tricks
in the same match as Sarah Porter also scored three goals. Stanley,
who added an assist against St. Andrews, also had a goal and assist
in Mount Olive's 3-0 road win at Converse to total 10 points on the
week. The senior forward from Eastover, NC currently leads the
conference in goals and points, and is tied for third in assists.
During a three-match stretch, Stanley scored seven of Mount Olive's
eight goals. The Trojans currently are 3-0 in league play and 4-1-1
overall.
