Conferencec Carolinas Announces Cross Country Runners of the Week

Lees-McRae’s Shields Named Women's Runner of the Week

High Point, N.C.> Lees-McRae College’s Emily Shields has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's cross country Runner of the Week during week number four in the 2011 season. Emily Shields posted another strong showing on Saturday at the Greensboro Invitational, finishing 3rd out of 101 runners overall and second among NCAA Division II runners with a time of 20:22. The third-place showing for the Salisbury, NC native was her second straight top-five finish, as the Bobcats placed third overall (out of 13) and second among D-II squads in the team standings.

Lees-McRae’s Simpkins Named Men’s Runner of the Week

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Wednesday, September 28, 2011

 

High Point, N.C.>  Lees-McRae College’s Craig Simpkins has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's cross country Runner of the Week during week number four in the 2011 season. The senior from Boiling Springs, S.C. paced the Bobcats to an impressive performance at the Greensboro Invitational on Saturday, finishing fourth overall and second among NCAA Division II runners with a time of 27:35. Simpkins led a trio of Bobcats in the top six as Lees-McRae finished second in the team standings behind NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University.
