Mount Olive's Urquiola Named Women's Golf Player of the Month
High Point, N.C. – Mount
Olive College's Valentina Urquiola has been selected as the NCAA
Division II Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Player of the Month
during the month of September. Urquiola finished first out of 29
golfers and matched her own school record for lowest 36-hole score
at the season-opening CenturyLink Collegiate Invite, co-hosted by
Mount Olive College and Barton College. Urquiola broke away from a
three-way tie after the first round to card matching 75's for a
36-hole score of 150. Urquiola and teammate Emelie Andersson
finished first and second in the tournament, the first one-two
individual finish in school history in a tournament with at least
five teams. The following week, Urquiola tied for seventh out of 54
golfers in the Marjorie Whitney Invitational at the prestigious TPC
Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla. Urquiola, who holds school
records for low career and single-season scoring average, averaged
a 77 in her first four rounds this season.
