High Point, N.C. – Mount Olive College's Valentina Urquiola has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Player of the Month during the month of September. Urquiola finished first out of 29 golfers and matched her own school record for lowest 36-hole score at the season-opening CenturyLink Collegiate Invite, co-hosted by Mount Olive College and Barton College. Urquiola broke away from a three-way tie after the first round to card matching 75's for a 36-hole score of 150. Urquiola and teammate Emelie Andersson finished first and second in the tournament, the first one-two individual finish in school history in a tournament with at least five teams. The following week, Urquiola tied for seventh out of 54 golfers in the Marjorie Whitney Invitational at the prestigious TPC Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla. Urquiola, who holds school records for low career and single-season scoring average, averaged a 77 in her first four rounds this season.
