Mount Olive’s Nesmith Named Women's Basketball Player of the Week
High Point, N.C. – Mount Olive College’s Tamara
Nesmith has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference
Carolinas women's basketball Player of the Week during week number
seven of the 2011-2012 season. Tamara Nesmith, who came within two
assists and two steals of the first quadruple-double in Mount Olive
College history, averaged a double-double over the past five games
to help the Trojans compile a five-game winning streak, including a
3-0 start in conference play in a span of just five days. Nesmith
tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals in the
Trojans’ 78-75 conference-opening win over Coker. Her steal
and free throw in the final four seconds helped seal the victory.
Nesmith followed with 20 points (6-6 ft), 9 rebounds and 5 steals
as Mount Olive rallied from a 16-point deficit for a 79-73 win at
Pfeiffer. She capped the week with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals
and 4 assists in the Trojans’ 65-59 win at King. Nesmith also
helped lead the Trojans to a pair of non-conference wins: 10 points
and 14 rebounds against Fayetteville State, and 14 points and 8
rebounds against Apprentice. In Mount Olive’s three
conference wins, Nesmith averaged 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.7
assists and 5.3 steals. Mount Olive is 9-3 overall in the season
and 3-0 in league play.
