St. Andrews Request Removal from Conference Carolinas 2012 Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse Schedules
High Point, N.C.> Conference Carolinas announces that St.
Andrews University will not play previously scheduled men’s
and women’s lacrosse games for the upcoming 2012
season. St. Andrews, which is a former longstanding
conference member and current 2012 scheduling partner, informed
league officials late last week of the upcoming change.
St. Andrews will continue to schedule all upcoming 2012
conference baseball, softball, men’s golf, and women’s
golf events through the 2012 season. The Knights, who were 23
year Conference Carolinas well-standing league members, announced
this past fall their intention for NAIA membership starting in the
2012-13 academic year.
Conference Carolinas men’s & women’s lacrosse
programs are currently renowned nationally. Both are
considered a major hotbed for lacrosse in NCAA DII and help to
continue growing the game in the South and across the United
States. Mount Olive and Coker recently announced that they
will continue to grow the sport, with both programs adding
women’s teams for next year’s 2013 season. The
Coker men are fielding their first team ever this 2012 spring,
while Mount Olive men will take their first game in the 2013
season.
Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletic
conference currently made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton
College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College,
Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone
College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer
University, and Queens University of Charlotte.
