High Point, NC> Queens University of Charlotte has been voted the 2012 women's golf preseason favorite by league head coaches. The Royals are looking to grab the league title this year after coming off of a spectacular fall season. Four seniors- Camilla Mallberg, Mallory Ruhling, Louise Sjoberg and Julia Wennerlung- are leading the team this season.

Wennerlund had her season low of 75 at the Marjorie Whitney Invitational at TPC Sawgrass and was named Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Month for October. Sjoberg shot 152 (75, 77) at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury, which is where Ruhling also turned in her season low of 78.

"We are excited about the initial positive poll responses, but we are aware that the only success will be crowned on the golf course," commented Coach Sam Puryear.

Mount Olive College is ranked second among the top three in the Conference Carolinas poll for the first time in the 10-year history of the women's golf program. Ninth year and reigning league Coach of the Year Chip Spiron led the Trojans in three tournaments during the fall as they placed at least one individual in the top 10 each time.

Senior Valentina Urquiola and junior Emelie Andersson finished first and second out of 29 golfers at the CenturyLink Collegiate Invite, co-hosted by Mount Olive and Barton. Both Urquiola and Andersson placed in the top 10 at last year's Conference Carolinas Championship and earned All-Tournament honors. Urquiola was named to the All-Conference Carolinas Team for the third straight year, while Andersson became a two-time All-Conference selection.

The Trojans also return sophomore Emy Ohling, who was named to the 2011 All-Conference Carolinas third team and senior Tegan Skirpstas, who earned All-Tournament honors at the 2010 Conference Carolinas Championship.

After finishing third in last year's Conference Carolinas tournament, Pfeiffer University rounds out this year's coaches poll top-three in third. Chelsea Demers and Steph Peareth will once again anchor a talented lineup in the spring after coming off of a successful 2011 fall season.

The Lady Falcons started the fall season with a seventh place team finish at the Anderson Invitational with Demers leading the charge with an eighth place individual finish. The highlight of the fall though came in a convincing team victory in the 2011 Pfeiffer Intercollegiate as co-medalists Demers and Peareth led the Lady Falcons to a whopping 46-shot victory.

Rounding out the women's golf preseason poll 4-10 was: Belmont Abbey, Erskine, Coker, King & Limestone & North Greenville (tied), and Barton respectively.
