Conference Carolinas to Sponsor Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field
High Point, N.C.> Conference Carolinas announces that the league
will sponsor men’s and women’s indoor track and field
for the upcoming 2012-13 season. With the additions
Conference Carolinas will now support 20 sports league-wide.
Starting at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year, member
athletics directors began exploring the possibility of adding both
men’s & women’s indoor track & field. League
bylaws state that at least six member institutions must sponsor a
sport before it can become an official conference sport with a
league championship conclusion. Conference members joined-in
with overwhelming support and eight current members will
participate in this year’s championship. Conference Carolinas
indoor track & field teams will be made-up of: Barton, Belmont
Abbey, King, Lees-McRae, Limestone, Mount Olive, North Greenville,
and Queens.
The final piece of the puzzle for the league was finding a
willing and capable facility to host the conference championships.
That was recently shored-up as the league championships will
be at the state of the art JDL Fast Track Indoor Track & Field
in Winston Salem, NC on Saturday, February 16.
JDL Fast Track recently opened in February of 2012. The
NCAA announced last week that JDL Fast Track would host the DII
National Championships in 2014 by local host institution Winston
Salem State University.
By having a championship event, Conference Carolinas indoor
track & field student-athletes will now compete for a team
league championship, individual all-conference awards, and points
to leagues overall ‘Joby Hawn’ sports cup.
Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletic
conference currently made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton
College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College,
Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone
College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer
University, and Queens University of Charlotte.
