Mount Olive Voted Conference Carolinas Women’s Track & Field Preseason Favorite

High Point, NC> In just its fourth year of competition, Mount Olive College won the 2011 Conference Carolinas Women’s Track and Field Championship and have been chosen as this year’s preseason favorite by league head coaches. The Trojans collected 200 points at last year’s championship, finishing 49 points ahead of the nearest competitor.

Mount Olive returns five All-Conference Carolinas First Team honorees, including Female Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year Alaytra Carswell. Denise Harrison, Chelsea Long, Jess McKinnis and Amber Thompson also captured First Team honors with event wins.

The Trojans were ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Region throughout most of 2011 and were ranked in the top two the entire season.

The Limestone College women’s track & field program has been selected to finish second in the 2012 Conference Carolinas Coaches Preseason poll for the second consecutive year, after a successful three year run that includes back-to-back Conference Championships (2009 & 2010) and runner-up finish last season.

Decorated senior Anisha Barbee returns for her final season in the Blue and Gold. Barbee took home first-team All-Conference honors in the 200 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay as well as second-team honors in the 4x400 meter relay. Sophomore Andreina Paige also returns after a standout freshman campaign that included first-team honors in the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay.

Lees-McRae College is picked to finish third this season after placing third at last spring’s Conference Carolinas Championships. The Bobcats return a talented core of athletes in all competitions, with juniors Jamara Cook and Iesha Poindexter, as well as sophomores Kortnie Curry, Taryn Moorhead, and Persephanie Mcrae leading the charge for Lees-McRae. Head coach Ley Fletcher also welcomes a strong recruiting class into the fold as the Bobcats look to vault back to the top of the conference.

Rounding out the women's track & field preseason poll 4-8 is: King, Queens, Belmont Abbey, North Greenville, and Barton respectively.
