CONFERENCE CAROLINAS ANNOUNCES TENNIS ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Queens’ Bloch Named Men's Tennis Player of the Week

High Point, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte’s Joshua Bloch has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's tennis Player of the Week during week number 1 of the 2012 season. Joshua Bloch of Johannesburg, South Africa began Queens’ three-match week with a convincing win over Henrique Boturao of No. 13 nationally ranked Augusta State University. Boturao was ranked 36th individually in the nation. Bloch then went on to defeat Alex Gradenuitz of Belmont Abbey College and Chris Jeter of Winston-Salem State University to go 3-0 in singles for the week. His match with Gradenuitz went to a super tiebreaker which he won 10-4. Bloch also went 2-1 in doubles action on the week. The Royals are now 3-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in league play.

 

Mount Olive’s Becker Named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

High Point, N.C. – Mount Olive College’s Marine Becker has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's tennis Player of the Week during week number 1 of the 2012 season. Marine Becker went a combined 6-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles as Mount Olive posted a perfect 3-0 record last week with three wins in four days. Becker did not drop any games in singles or doubles against Fayetteville State and recorded another doubles shutout against Chowan. In a total of nine sets - combined singles and doubles - Becker never lost more than three games and dropped one or less games in six of the nine sets she played. Mount Olive is currently 3-1 overall on the season.
