High Point, N.C.> Conference Carolinas basketball championships tip-off next week with the women opening tournament play Monday followed by the men tipping-off Tuesday. Conference regular season league play comes to an end this weekend with crucial games remaining to determine pairings and final match-ups for next week's tournament.
The championship culmination next week not only puts the prestigious conference tournament title on the line, but the winners also receive the NCAA DII National Tournament automatic bids.
Conference Carolinas has a rich history with their men's and women's basketball conference tournaments. The women boast the second oldest conference tournament within all of NCAA Division II. The women's league tournament started in 1975 and is in its 37th year which is just one year younger than the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament which started in 1974.
The men's Conference Carolinas tournament will be celebrating their 71st anniversary this year with its birth date in 1941. The men's tournament is the third oldest in all of NCAA DII behind the SIAC (1934) and the WVIAC (1935).
All games this year will be played at the higher seeded team with a 7:00 PM tip time except for the Sunday men's championship game which will start at 2:00 PM. Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletic conference currently made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Queens University of Charlotte.
