GAFFNEY, S.C. – Facing a team making its
10
th appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, No.
4 Limestone (17-2, 6-0 CC) saw their 15-game win streak come to an
end as No. 7 West Chester (15-3, 9-2 PSAC) notched an 11-7 victory
to advance to the women's lacrosse Final Four in Louisville, Ky.
The Saints end the season with a 17-2 overall record, equaling the
second most wins in program history.
Senior attack
Racquel
Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) scored just one goal but that
point tied her for the program record for the most points in a
season with 91. That equals the mark set by Pam Gateau (2001-04) in
2004. However, she would fall just short of breaking that record as
well as the all-time career goals mark. She finishes her career
with 190, one shy of the record of 191 held by current assistant
coach
Lauryn
Wise (2006-09).
She was joined by senior attack
Sylvia
Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y.) with a goal and two assists
while sophomore midfielder
Katie
Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) notched a pair of scores. Junior
attack
Chelsea
Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and sophomore attack
Sarah
Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) finished with a goal and assist
and junior midfielder
Brittany
Howard (Oswego, N.Y.) wrapped up the offensive
performances with a lone goal.
Junior defender
Skylar
Marcoux (Woodbine, Md.) produced four groundballs and
three draw controls to lead the defense while senior goalkeeper
Brigid
Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) had three groundballs to go
along with 10 saves and 11 goals allowed in net. She finishes the
season at 16-2 and 39-6 for her career. Her 39 wins are tied for
the most in program history, equaling the mark set by Jackie Weaver
(2003-06).
West Chester got on the board early as Nicole Pyle converted on a
pass from Tori Dugan at the 18:47 mark. The teams would then
alternate the next three goals as Treat and Howard scored for
Limestone to tie the game at 2-2 with 17:51 left in the half. Three
straight scores from the Rams over the next seven minutes then gave
them a 5-2 lead.
Farrell connected on a pass from Queener to cut the deficit to 5-3
but back-to-back scores by WCU's Lauren Glassey and Erin Oczkowski
made it 7-3. Prager got her goal at the 3:03 mark to make it 7-4 at
the half. Oor opened the final 30 minutes of play with her only
goal, that at 26:43, to close to within 7-5.
That would be as close as the Saints would get however as
consecutive goals by Glassey then put the game out of reach at 9-5.
Goals by Queener and Farrell down the stretch got Limestone to
within 10-7 before a Dugan goal with 2:05 left sealed the four-goal
West Chester victory.
Glassey and Oczkowski led all scorers with a game-high three goals
and Glassey added an assist for the Golden Rams while Jamie Dolan
had a goal and two assists. Dugan finished with a goal and assist
and Theresa Giunta notched a goal and game-high six groundballs to
go along with three draw controls. Pyle and Jacki Patterson each
had solo goals. Jess Henderson played all 60 minutes in net,
allowing seven goals and making six saves to pick up the win and
move to 15-3 on the season.
Limestone closes out its 16
th campaign with a17-2
overall record, regular season and tournament championships in
Conference Carolinas and their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance,
fifth consecutively.
