Conference Carolinas Announces New Format for Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament

HIGH POINT, NC - Conference Carolinas, along with the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center, are pleased to unveil their new championship format for the Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament to be held on March 5 & 6, 2014.  Conference Carolinas is offering FREE ADMISSION, with a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, for fans who attend the event.

For the first time in over a decade, the final four teams, for both men and women, will play at a neutral site. The new format aims to create an exciting championship event for the eight teams and fans in attendance.

“We are so excited to have a neutral site basketball championship for the league again," stated Brook Patterson, Associate Commissioner for Conference Carolinas.  "For the last eleven years we have had our basketball championships hosted by different member schools and we hope by bringing everyone here together more centrally (in Concord, NC), we can provide an extraordinary experience for our student-athletes and fans."

In past years, the conference championship tournament operated under a higher seed format where the lower seeded team would travel to opposing colleges to play. The new format will not only house the top games in one location but allow greater opportunity for both institutions’ fans to attend.

The Conference Carolinas Tournament will kick off on March 1, 2014 with quarter-final games being held at higher seeds. Conference Carolinas is adding a banquet and ceremony for teams that qualify for the tournament.
