Belmont Abbey's Schellenberg Represents on 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Volleyball team
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Daktronics, Inc. and the
Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
released today the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast
Region Volleyball teams. Wingate senior rightside hitter Anna
Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) was named the Southeast Region Player of the
Year while Armstrong Atlantic State University paced all schools
with three first-team honorees.
The 2013 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and a
three-time Daktronics Southeast Region First Team honoree, Hilton
headlines a first team that includes players from four different
schools that will be competing in the upcoming NCAA Southeast
Regional, which begins on Thursday in Wingate, N.C. The No.
9-ranked Bulldogs also landed junior middle hitter Lexi Potter
(North Liberty, Iowa) on the first-team squad, while No. 17-ranked
Armstrong had three first-team honorees: senior outside hitter and
2013 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Jessica Santaniello
(Boca Raton, Fla.), senior and 2013 Peach Belt Conference Setter of
the Year Megan Pando (Oviedo, Fla.) and senior middle hitter
Kristen Holmes (Flowery Branch, Ga.). SAC Tournament finalist
Anderson (SC) landed junior outside hitter Shannon Gillespie
(Fishers, Ind.) on the first team while senior libero Caitlyn Dean
(Fort Wayne, Ind.) from Tusculum earns a spot on the All-Region
team for the fourth time, with three of those four years being a
first-team selection.
Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA
Division II All-America honors. The Daktronics NCAA DII teams are
voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) from the Southeast
Region, which is comprised of schools from Conference Carolinas,
the South Atlantic Conference and the Peach Belt Conference.
The second team features two players from regional participant
Flagler in senior outside hitter Emilee Taylor (Temple Terrace,
Fla.) and sophomore libero Caitlyn Kovach (Clearwater, Fla.).
Armstrong’s second-team selection is junior outside hitter
Stephanie Sfara (Boardman, Ohio) while Wingate’s second-team
selection is junior setter Alison Cooke (Davidson, N.C.). Regional
participant Queens (NC) placed senior outside hitter Keri Kemp
(Lake Mary, Fla.) on the squad as did Conference Carolinas champion
Belmont Abbey with sophomore outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg
(Jacksonville, Fla.), the 2013 Conference Carolinas Player of the
Year. Lenoir-Rhyne’s junior outside hitter Haley Rhyne
(Statesville, N.C.), Montevallo’s senior middle hitter Manyi
Ati (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Anderson (SC) middle hitter Hailey
Pittman (Orlando, Fla.) round out the second team honorees.
