Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams Announced For Tennis

                  High Point, N.C. > The Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams were determined by vote from each Head Coach of participating league institutions.  Nominations were collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, All-Conference Second Team and All-Conference Third Team.  Awards were presented at the league tennis team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships co-hosted by Erskine College and the Palmetto Park Tennis Complex in Sumter, SC.  This year's award winners are as follows:

 

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS:

 

Player of the Year:

Corin Hallman, Erskine

Junior Corin Hallman led the Flying Fleet to a perfect 10-0 record in conference and the Fleet's third consecutive conference regular season title and their eighth regular season title in nine years. From her #1 singles and #1 doubles position, Hallman led the Fleet with a 17-3 singles record and was undefeated in conference at 10-0. In doubles, Hallman was 13-7 overall and 9-1 in conference.

 

Freshman of the Year: 

Valeria Mendoza, Pfeiffer

Valeria Mendoza has posted a 13-4 record in singles play and a 12-6 mark in doubles action during her rookie season to help guide Pfeiffer University to one of the best season's in Lady Falcons history. All 13 of Mendoza's singles wins were in straight-sets while half of her defeats came down to a third set. In doubles play with Taylor Lindsay, the duo would pick up 10 of their 12 victories cruising by four or more games.

 

Coach of the Year: 

Calhoun Parr, Erskine

Erskine Head Women's Tennis Coach Calhoun Parr directed the Flying Fleet to their second consecutive perfect conference record with 10-0 record this season. In the process, the Fleet won their third consecutive conference regular season title and their eighth regular season title in nine years. It is the sixth time his coaching peers have voted him "Coach of the Year."

MEN'S TENNIS:

Player of the Year:

Carlos Yanes, Limestone

A four-time Player of the Week choice this season and the defending Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Player of the Year, senior Carlos Yanes has been nearly unstoppable with an 18-4 singles mark, all at No. 1, and a 21-1 record at No. 1 doubles with senior Rafael Ferla.

 

With the latter, that pairing had won their first 21 on the season and Yanes had a personal streak of 24 consecutive doubles wins at one point dating back to last year. In conference he posted a perfect 10-0 singles record and 9-1 record in doubles play. He once again joins 2003 winner Alexander Grupp as the only other Limestone men's tennis player to win Player of the Year and is the first to do so twice in a career.

 

Freshman of the Year: 

Andre Staab, Coker

Andre Staab put together an outstanding freshman season, leading the Cobras to their first ever Conference Carolinas title. Playing at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Staab put together a singles record of 15-5 overall and a doubles record of 11-9 overall. Staab is also the first Cobra to ever earn an individual regional ranking, as the No. 12 men's tennis player in the Southeast Region.

 

Coach of the Year: 

 Tom Simpson, Coker

Tom Simpson, in his second season at Coker, has led the men's team to a 16-4 overall record with a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play. Ranked No. 6 in the Southeast Region, Simpson has transformed the Cobras into a conference champion and a regional contender.
