Conference Carolinas Announces All-Conference Softball Honors
High Point, N.C.> Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams
were determined by vote from each softball head coach of
participating league institutions. Nominations are collected
and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of
the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the
Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second
Team. Awards were presented at the Conference Carolinas
softball team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships
hosted by The City of Burlington at Springwood Park, in Burlington,
NC. This year’s award winners are as follows:
Player of the
Year:
Whitney Britt, Queens
Whitney Britt had a sensational sophomore
campaign for the Royals, posting a conference leading batting
average of .440 along with eight home runs. Britt led the Royals
with 55 hits, 44 runs scored, and six stolen bases, and was a
defensive star for the Royals in the offense. Britt powered the
Royals to a 13-7 record in conference play, and a nine game winning
streak to end the season.
Pitcher of the
Year:
Hannah Light, King
Hannah Light may have started slow, but she has
won eight straight contests to end the regular season with a record
of 22-13. In conference play, the junior led the leaue with 12
wins, against just two losses to go along with a 1.27 ERA. The
junior led the league in wins (22), complete games (29), shutouts
(5), innings pitched (247.2) and strikeouts at 207. As of April 14,
Light ranked third in the country with 21 wins and ninth with 203
strikeouts.
Freshman of the
Year:
Kaitlyn Bodine, Queens
Kaitlyn Bodine burst on the scene for the
Royals this season, and was a force from both the circle and the
plate. Bodine starred in relief for the Royals pitching staff,
where she compiled a 2.77 ERA in 73 innings pitched. Bodine padded
those numbers with a team high nine wins and two saves, that
propelled the Royals to a 13-7 record in conference play, and a
nine game winning streak to end the season. As a hitter Bodine was
just as impressive with a .357 batting average with three home
runs.
Coach of the
Year:
Jaime Kylis-Higginbotham, Mount Olive
Jaime Kylis-Higginbotham wins Conference
Carolinas Softball Coach of the Year for the second straight year
and third time in her career. Kylis-Higginbotham led the Trojans to
a No. 8 ranking in the NCAA II Southeast Region Top 10 Poll, an
overall .700 winning percentage during the regular season and a
second place tie in the conference standings. Mount Olive has had
one of its best-ever offensive seasons, leading the conference in
runs scored, ranking second in home runs and third in team batting
average.
