High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Coaches have voted King University as the top women’s indoor track & field team coming into the 2014 season. King looks to repeat as Conference Carolinas champions after taking both the indoor and outdoor crowns a season ago. Reigning Conference Carolinas Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year Maegan Henry headlines the returning group for the Tornado.

Earlier this season, Henry posted an NCAA provisional distance of 13.33 meters in the shot put, setting a school record in the process. She will be joined by a veteran core of distance runners, and sprinters Tia Nelson and Alexis Robinson will lead a young sprint group in 2014. Shelbie Burchfield nearly broke her own school record in the high jump at the first meet of the year, and looks to lead a talented young group of jumpers.

"Track and field in the conference on the women's side is very strong this year," said head coach Amanda Williamson. "We have the goal of repeating as conference champions this season, and we know that everyone is going to have to perform well to achieve our goal."

The Limestone women’s indoor track & field team has been picked to finish second after a fifth-place finish at the conference meet a season ago. The Saints will look to All-Conference members and juniors Amber Cunningham and Qwaneshia Matthews to guide a young and promising squad.

Newcomers such as Ajanai Edwards, Jada Harris, Kendai Killings and Brandie Sharber have already let their presence known in their first outing of the season. In fact, Edwards has already broken the school record in the long and triple jump.

Mount Olive finished third at last year’s inaugural Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship and finished the indoor season ranked No. 3 in the USTFCCCA Division II Southeast Region Top 10. The Trojans have finished in the regional top 10 in both years since adding women’s indoor track and field.

Aerostata Brown was named 2013 Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year after capturing three all-conference first team awards with first-place finishes in three events. Brown won the 60-meter dash, long jump and triple jump.

The Trojans also return 2013 All-Conference Carolinas performers Megan Bucek and Christina Jordan. Bucek and Jordan were part of Mount Olive’s relay team that finished third in the distance medley.

Belmont Abbey, finished fourth in the poll with Barton fifth followed by North Greenville, Lee-McRae, and Converse College respectively rounding-out the poll standings.
