Conference Carolinas Announces Men’s Soccer Award Winners

High Point, N.C. - Conference Carolinas announces the men’s soccer all-conference teams during this week's Conference Carolinas Men's & Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Awards include All-Conference First, Second, & Third teams, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Regular Season Champions. Head coaches from conference member institutions nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the league.

The conference championships started Monday with the top eight teams qualifying for quarterfinal action. Semifinal play resumes Thursday (men) and Friday (women) with the championship finals on Saturday (men) and Sunday (women). All games are played at the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinal round. Converse is the host of the women’s tournament, while Limestone hosts the men’s tournament. The women's tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA DII championships while the top six regionally ranked men's teams will qualify for postseason play.

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year

Sam Orritt, Limestone

Midfielder, Senior

Orritt became the first player in Limestone men’s soccer history to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors. The All-American currently ranks fifth in the conference with 10 goals and 24 points, and is second in the league with four game-winning goals. He posted the winning score in wins over Mars Hill, Barton, King, and Emmanuel during his senior campaign.

Randriamanantena has been a dominating fixture in the Limestone defensive backfield the past two seasons, and has anchored arguably the best defensive unit in team history this season. He has helped limit league opponents to just nine goals in 2014 while guiding the defense to eight shutouts. The Saints have allowed just two goals over the past seven contests.

Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year

Harry Cooksley, Limestone

Midfielder, Freshman

Cooksley has made a huge impact during his first season with the Blue and Gold, posting six goals, four assists and 16 points. He nailed a dramatic game-winner in the 89th minute in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Lees-McRae and then followed it up with the game-winning score against Southern Wesleyan.

Men's Soccer Coach of the Year

Eric Alsop, Limestone

12th season as Head Coach

Alsop guided the Saints to their third straight Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship with a perfect 10-0 league record, and has his team primed for its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
