Conference Carolinas Announces All Conference Tennis Teams
High Point, N.C. > The Conference Carolinas All-Conference
Teams were determined by vote from each Head Coach of participating
league institutions. Nominations were collected and then
voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year,
Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team,
All-Conference Second Team and All-Conference Third Team.
Awards were presented at the league tennis team banquet at the
Conference Tournament Championships co-hosted by Erskine College
and the Palmetto Park Tennis Complex in Sumter, SC. This
year's award winners are as follows:
WOMEN'S TENNIS:
Player of the
Year:
Olivia Nelms, Pfeiffer University
In her freshman season, Olivia Nelms posted a 14-2 overall
record and an 8-1 mark in the number one singles slot for Pfeiffer.
Nelms won six straight singles matches and recorded all but one of
her wins in straight sets. Nelms also teamed with Hannah Watson in
number two doubles and finished with a nearly perfect record at
17-1. The freshman from England helped the Falcons achieve multiple
school records including most consecutive wins (14) and most wins
in a regular season (17).

Coach of the
Year:
Calhoun Parr, Erskine
Erskine Head Women's Tennis Coach Calhoun Parr directed the
Flying Fleet to their third consecutive perfect conference record
with 9-0 mark this season. In the process, the Fleet won their
forth consecutive conference regular season title and their ninth
regular season title in ten years. This is the seventh time in his
career that his coaching peers have voted him "Coach of the
Year."

MEN'S TENNIS:
Player of the
Year:
Loic Minery, Pfeiffer
Following an 8-2 conference record in 2013, Pfeiffer’s
Loic Minery followed that up with a 15-2 overall and 7-1 conference
record from the number one singles spot. Minery led the Falcons to
a 13-4 overall record and 5-3 mark in conference play, while being
nearly unbeatable all season. Playing exclusively at number one
doubles with Sebastian Werenecke, Minery went 13-3 including wins
over nationally ranked University of Mount Olive, Limestone
College, and USC-Aiken.
Freshman of the
Year:
Jake McCartney, Barton
Jake McCartney began his Barton College career with 11 straight
singles victories over opponents at the NCAA Division II level or
below. The Thames, New Zealand resident started the season at No. 2
singles, but quickly moved into the top slot as his winning streak
continued. McCartney finished the regular season with a 13-3 record
in singles, and also posted a 14-4 mark at No. 1 doubles along with
his partner, Rafael Ruiz. He led the Bulldogs to a 12-6 record,
their best performance since 2007.
Coach of the
Year:
Kevin Coghill, Mount Olive
Kevin Coghill wins Conference Carolinas Men’s Tennis Coach
of the Year for the second time in the last three years. Mount
Olive went unbeaten in conference play this season, joining the
2005 men’s tennis team as the only Trojan athletics teams to
finish a conference season unbeaten. Mount Olive has two wins over
nationally ranked teams and the Trojans’ only loss this
season came against a Division I opponent. The Trojans enter the
Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 15-1 overall record (8-0
Conference Carolinas) and a 12-match winning streak.
