Conference Carolinas All-Conference Golf Teams Announced
High Point, N.C. - The Conference
Carolinas All-Conference Teams were determined by vote from each
head coach of participating league institutions. Nominations were
collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine
Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year,
All-Conference First Team, All-Conference Second Team and
All-Conference Third Team. Awards were presented at the league golf
team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by
Belmont Abbey College at Bryan Park "Champions Course" in
Greensboro, NC. This year's award winners are as
follows:
MEN'S GOLF:
Player of the
Year:
Nicolas Fonseca, Barton
College
Nicolas Fonseca had a tremendous senior season for the Barton
men's golf team with a 72.84 stroke average in eight collegiate
events. Fonseca's highest round of the season was a 75 as he posted
top-15 finishes in all eight events including top-6 showings in all
five spring events. Fonseca, who garnered three league Golfer of
the Month awards, won medalist honors twice in the Echo Farms
Intercollegiate and Barton Intercollegiate. Fonseca is the only
Conference Carolinas golfer ranked in Golfstat's top-50 in NCAA
Division II.
Freshman of the
Year:
Will Woodard, Limestone College
Limestone College’s Will Woodard from Spartanburg, S.C.
was consistently in the top-two of the Saints lineup in the seven
tournaments he competed in. Woodard’s best outing came
back during the fall season as he shot a one-under 143 at the
two-round King University Invitational. He was Limestone’s
top-golfer for the event as he finished tied for sixth overall and
helped the team to a third-place finish.Woodard was also very
strong down the back stretch of the season as helped the team to
victories at Rendleman Invitational and The Trojan; the victories
were the Saints first two tournament wins in four seasons. At both
tournaments he finished second in the Saints lineup with an
11th-place finish at Rendleman and 5th at The Trojan.
Coach of the
Year:
Jason Allen, Erskine College
After their breakout season last year, Head Coach Jason Allen
has his men’s team in position for a second NCAA regional bid
this season in just six years since men’s golf was brought
back as a varsity sport. In arguably the toughest region,
Coach Allen has built the men’s squad into not only a
conference contender but also an emerging national power.
Erskine won the nine-team King Invitational earlier this year and
finished 2nd three times, two of which had 16 and 17 teams from the
Southeast Region.

WOMEN'S
GOLF:
Player of the
Year:
Elizabeth Swallow, King University
From the day Swallow stepped on the King University campus two
years ago, the sophomore has been nothing short of spectacular. She
was named first team all-conference as a freshman, and this year
was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Year. The Berkshire,
England native has turned in a stellar sophomore campaign, winning
three of the eight tournaments she has entered. She has finished in
the top 10 of all eight tournaments this season and has been in the
top five on five occasions. She started the season with a bang,
winning the Tusculum Fall Classic by two strokes before taking the
King University Invitational by 10 strokes with an even-par score
of 142 in her first two tournaments of the year. She also won the
Hilton Head Lakes Classic a week after taking second at the TSYS
Collegiate Classic hosted by Columbus State University.
Freshman of
the Year:
Brittany LaPadula, Limestone College
Limestone College’s Brittany LaPadula was consistently in
the top two of the Saints lineup in the eight tournaments she
competed in. The Port St. Lucie, Fla. native was Limestone’s
top finisher on three separate occasions and finished second in two
other tournaments. She also helped her team to three, first-place
finishes. LaPadula had four top-10 finishes which included
second-place overall finishes at Hilton Head Lakes and The Trojan.
Her two best appearances of the season came in her first and last.
She shot a seven-over par 151 at the Smoky Mountain
Intercollegiate, and five-over par 149 at The Trojan.
Coach of the
Year:

Under Head Coach Jason Allen, the Erskine Women’s Golf
Team experienced their best season in their six-year history.
This season the Erskine Women’s Team won two of their eight
tournaments while finishing second and third in two other
tournaments. The Flying Fleet, who do not have a senior on
this year’s squad, finished in the upper division in all
eight tournaments this season.
