High Point, N.C. > The Conference Carolinas All-Conference baseball teams were determined by vote from each head coach of participating league institutions.  Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second Team.  Awards were presented at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by The City of Burlington and The Burlington Royals at the Burlington Athletic Stadium in Burlington, NC at this weekend’s conference championship.  This year’s award winners are as follows:

Freshman of the Year:

Kodi Whitley - University of Mount Olive

Kodi Whitley has the third lowest earned run average in the conference and is tied for seventh in wins. His first collegiate win came against then-nationally ranked California (Pa.), in which he started and allowed only one run in seven innings. Whitley has gone at least six innings in seven of his eight starts.

Coach of the Year:

Carl Lancaster – University of Mount Olive

Carl Lancaster wins the Coach of the Year award for the fourth year in a row and 12th time overall. The Trojans have been nationally ranked all season and are No. 6 in the nation this week. Mount Olive enters the conference tournament on a 19-game winning streak.

Pitcher of the Year:

Austin Gambrell – Erskine College

Austin has been named Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year.  He is 7-1 with a 3.10 ERA with 53 strike outs.  He finished conference play with a perfect 5-0 record and one complete game with 33 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA.  He is ranked first in the conference in wins, strikeout-to-walk ratio, WHIP, and fewest walks allowed per nine innings.

Player of the Year:

Bradon Reitano – University of Mount Olive

Bradon Reitano has a shot at winning the Triple Crown as he enters the tournament leading the conference in home runs and runs batted, and ranked second with a .402 batting average. A first team All-America last year, Reitano is a three-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week this season, as well as a Southeast Region Player of the Week. Reitano becomes the Trojans’ first three-time all-conference baseball selection since Jesse Lancaster.
