Conference Carolinas Announces All Conference Softball Awards
High Point, N.C.> Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams
were determined by vote from each softball head coach of
participating league institutions. Nominations are collected
and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of
the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the
Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second
Team. Awards were presented at the Conference Carolinas
softball team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships
hosted by The City of Burlington at Springwood Park, in Burlington,
NC. This year’s award winners are as follows:
Player of the Year:
Rachel Glazebrook, North Greenville
Rachel Glazebrook put together a stellar senior campaign during
the 2014 season for the North Greenville softball team both at the
dish, and on the mound. Glazebrook ranked 2nd in the conference in
strikeouts with 229 and wins with 17 and was first in the league
boasting a 1.38 earned run average. Her numbers at the plate were
equally impressive, swinging the bat at a .398 (2nd in the league)
with 31 runs batted in (2nd in the league) with four homeruns, and
eight doubles. She also scored 19 runs, batting from the three hole
in the NGU lineup.
Pitcher of the Year:
Hannah Light, King
For the second consecutive year, Hannah Light has been named
Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year after leading the league
in strikeouts and victories both seasons. This year, the senior has
been nothing short of impressive, leading the Tornado to a second
place finish in the regular season. In the national rankings, Light
was ranked in the top three (all divisions) in strikeouts the
majority of the season, and is ranked seventh in NCAA DII with 245
punch outs. The Coeburn, Va., native led King on a 10-game winning
streak, earning wins in the circle each game. For the season she
has an overall record of 25-16 while going 11-4 in league play.
Light ranks fourth in the league with an earned run average of
1.89, and her 25 wins rank second in all of NCAA DII. She has
appeared in all but five of King’s 50 games, starting 42
games for the Tornado. Light was named Conference Carolinas Pitcher
of the Week five times during the regular season.
Freshman of the Year:
Lydia Trexler, Erskine
A standout shortstop in high school, Erskine’s Lydia
Trexler made not only the conversion to playing a new position look
effortlessly but also collegiate softball. The 5’6
center fielder played nearly flawless defense, committing just one
error while gunning down five base runners from the outfield.
In fact, Trexler’s defensive play helped her earn Conference
Carolinas Player of the Week, throwing out two base runners, one at
home, another at third, and in a game against conference foe King
University. At the plate, Trexler led Conference Carolinas in
home runs (9) and was third in runs batted in (27) despite missing
six games due to a back injury. Her .313 batting average was
second on the team.
Coach of the Year:
Amy Yates, Limestone
In only her second year at her alma mater, Limestone softball
head coach Amy Yates has been named Conference Carolinas Softball
Coach of the Year for the first time in her coaching career. Yates
has lead her Saints to a Conference Carolinas Regular Season Title
with a 28-16 overall record and a 12-4 mark in league play.
Of her championship winning team, two were named First-Team
All-Conference and four were named to the Second-Team. Yates lead
the Blue and Gold to eight doubleheader sweeps which included three
straight to close the season. Those final three doubleheader sweeps
were all against conference foes.
