Conference Carolinas Announces All-Conference Men's Volleyball Honors
High Point, NC - Conference Carolinas announces the
All-Conference Team honors in conjunction with the upcoming
Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Erskine claimed the league regular season title as conference
regular season play concluded this past weekend. Erskine as the No.
1 seed along with No. 2 Pfeiffer earned quarterfinal byes. First
round quarterfinal match-ups will be No. 3 Mount Olive hosting No.
6 Lees-McRae on one side of the bracket while No. 4 Limestone hosts
No. 5 Barton on the other side in action tonight, Wednesday April

Head coaches from conference member institutions nominate and
then vote upon the award winners who represent the best of the best
for the conference. Each Men's Volleyball All-Conference First,
Second, and Third Team is made up of five position players, a
libero, and a setter. Individual awards include Freshman of the
Year, Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Player
of the Year.
Player of
the Year
Angel Dache, University of Mount Olive – OH
Angel Dache ranks sixth in the
nation in kills per set and eighth in the nation in points per set.
He reached double figures in kills in 21 of 24 matches, including
five matches of at least 20 kills. He came within two kills of
matching a school record with a 26-kill performance against
Limestone. Dache also recorded 21 kills to help Mount Olive take
nationally ranked Lewis University to four sets. Dache becomes
Mount Olive’s first-ever three-time All-Conference Carolinas
First Team selection. In only three seasons at Mount Olive, Dache
has become the Trojans’ all-time career kills
leader.
Defensive
Player of the Year
Michael McMahon, Barton College – L
Barton College libero Michael
McMahon led all of NCAA Division I-II in digs, averaging 3.14 per
set. The junior from Dana Point, Calif., reached double-figures in
digs 17 times in 2014 and surpassed 20 in a match
twice.
Freshman
of the Year
Roberto Perez Vargas, Erskine College - OH
Erskine’s Roberto Perez
Vargas played a crucial role in the Flying Fleet earning their
first regular season conference title. Vargas finished fourth
in the conference and second on the team in kills per set with
3.75. Over the last eight games of the season, Vargas led the Fleet
in kills, averaging 4.76 kills per set. The Fleet went 7-1
over that stretch, clinching the regular season title and the No. 1
seed in the conference tournament. Vargas was voted three
times the Conference Player of the Week and was twice recognized by
Off the Block as the National Freshman of the Week.
Coach of
the Year
Jeff Lennox, Barton College
In his second season since
taking over a winless Barton College men’s volleyball
program, head coach Jeff Lennox led the Bulldogs to their first
Conference Carolinas Tournament berth in the program’s
three-year history. Picked to finish last in the league after
winning three games a season ago, the 2014 squad produced 11
overall wins and placed fifth in the conference with a 7-7 league
slate. Barton’s improvement was reflected in its 5-3 finish
to the regular season.
