Clark Reaches 1,000 Career Points In Loss Against Emmanuel
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - AJ Clark recorded his 1,000th career point
in Pfeiffer's 58-49 loss to Emmanuel on Saturday night. Clark hit
the historic milestone at the 12:03 mark of the second half on a
basket in the paint in his 70th career game.
Pfeiffer (8-9, 5-6 CC) was held to just 36.4 percent shooting on
the night and committed 18 turnovers. On the defensive end, the
Falcons held Emmanuel (10-8, 6-5 CC) to just 34.5 percent from the
field, including 24.1 percent in the first half.
Pfeiffer's pressure defense caused the Lions to misfire on their
first 11 shots. The Lions started the game just 1-for-17 but
Pfeiffer was equally as cold. With 8:39 left in the first half,
Pfeiffer held a 9-5 lead as neither team was able to find their
groove. The Falcons held Emmanuel to just nine points in the first
17:54 of the half, but the Lions closed the period on an 8-2 run to
take a 17-16 advantage into the break.
The Lions came out firing to start the second half, opening the
frame on a 20-2 run. Trailing 37-18 with just over 14 minutes to
play, the Falcons mounted a furious comeback. Pfeiffer scored 13 of
the game's next 15 points to close the gap to six points. However,
in the game's final 11:30, Pfeiffer was never able to get closer
than six points before ultimately falling by nine.
For the game, Josh Calhoun was Pfeiffer's leading scorer with 15
points, while Mike Smith added 14. Rob Folk had five blocks, all in
the first 10 minutes of the game, and added three rebounds and
three points. Clark finished his night with six points and sits at
an even 1,000.
Emmanuel was paced by Michael Stanley who recorded a double-double
with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lions held a 40-30 advantage on the glass and grabbed 20
offensive boards. Erskine outscored Pfeiffer 25-14 in points off
turnovers and held a 17-8 lead in 2nd chance points.
Pfeiffer will look to rebound on Wednesday night as they travel to
King for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
