Nine Conference Carolinas Cross Country Runners Named Division II All-Region Honorees

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – All-Region honorees for NCAA Division II Cross Country were recognized Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the weekend’s NCAA regional championships meets. Conference Carolinas had nine individuals, seven men and two women, receive southeast all-region honors.
A total of 395 student-athletes (198 men and 197 women) from 142 schools earned the distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at one of the eight regional sites across the country.
Leading the way on the men's side was Southeast Regional champion Mount Olive with five runners making the list. The quintet was led by sophomore Jonathan Dahlke's fourth-place finish of 32:50.7 in the men's 10K event. Freshman Adam Craig and senior Mike Munoz finished sixth and 10th, respectively, with times of 33:18.9 and 33:34.7. Juniors Fredric Lang and Jacob Urys' times of 34:10.8 and 34:20.5 rounded out Mount Olive's all-region honorees with 17th and 20th-place finishes, respectively.
Barton's Joel Lagat was named all-region after posting a time of 33:33.6 for an eighth-place finish. The sophomore also booked a trip to nationals with his 10K time. Rounding out the all-region honorees was King's Tanner Cook. The junior ran to a 15th-place finish with a time of 33:47.2.
On the women's side, the freshman Limestone duo of Sarah Rutto and Allyson Malone were tabbed all-region selections after stellar finishes in the women's 6K race. Rutto, who also qualified for nationals as an individual, posted a time of 23:38.0 for a eighth-place finish. Malone would turn in a 25th-place finish with a time of 24:18.5 to capture the final southeast all-region spot.
The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be held November 21 in Joplin, Missouri. Conference Carolinas will send Mount Olive's men's team and Barton's Lagat and Limestone's Rutto as indviduals to compete in nationals.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
