King's Mitchell Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – King University guard Whitney Mitchell has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 7-13, the conference announced today.

A junior from Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mitchell led the Tornado to a 1-1 week, with the win coming against Conference Carolinas foe Emmanuel (Ga.). For the week, she averaged 16 points and shot 50 percent from the field to go along with 3.5 steals per game.

Mitchell would be the catalyst in King's 57-51 win over Emmanuel (Ga.) on Dec. 10. She poured in team-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Mitchell would add four steals and two rebounds to her total. In a tough 78-70 loss to Lincoln Memorial on Dec. 12, Mitchell would register 16 points, three steals and two rebounds to lead the Tornado.

Mitchell currently ranks seventh in steals in the conference and has the Tornado undefeated in conference play at 3-0.
