Barton's Byrd Named Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College guard Dominique Byrd has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 7-13, the conference announced today.

Hailing from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Byrd had a efficient week for the Bulldogs, shooting 68.2 percent from the field and averaging 18.5 points, 13 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. The senior's play led Barton to a 2-0 week and has the Bulldogs sitting in third place of the Conference Carolinas standings.

In a 78-62 win over Elizabeth City St. on Dec. 9, Byrd dropped a season-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting and pulled down eight boards to go with his career-high five blocks. He would follow that performance up with a big double-double against Pfeiffer on Dec. 12. Byrd nabbed a double-double in the first half (11 pts, 11 reb) against the Falcons and finished the game with 16 points and 18 rebounds and two blocks.

Byrd ranks fourth in the conference with 14 total blocks and seventh in total rebounds.

Also nominated for Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Andrew Guerrero (Pfeiffer), Dontrell Brite (Mount Olive), Hunter LeVeau (King), Austin Anderson (Lees-McRae) and Shaq Dance (Limestone)
