Barton College's Russell, Jr. and Belmont Abbey College's Buhrmeister Named Conference Carolinas Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College’s Lawrence Russell, Jr. and Belmont Abbey College's Connor Buhrmeister have been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the conference announced today.

Hailing from Sicklerville, N.J., Russell, Jr. was named the field athlete of the week after an impressive weekend for the Bulldogs. The freshman competed in the triple jump and long jump at the Holiday Open hosted by Christopher Newport University. Russell, Jr. would capture the triple jump title with a score of 14.30 meters, while finishing runner-up in the long jump with a score of 6.92 meters.

Buhrmeister, a native of Clifton Park, N.Y., was named the track athlete of the week for his solid showing for Belmont Abbey at the JDL College Kickoff Classic. The freshman participated in the 1000 meter run and 4x4000 relay, finishing seventh overall in the 1000 with a score of 2:43.23, while leading his relay team to a time of 8:18.93 for a fourth-place finish.
