Mount Olive Ranked First in Men’s Tennis Coaches Preseason Poll
High Point, NC – The University of Mount Olive has been voted to finish 1st in the Conference Carolinas Coaches' Preseason Poll. Mount Olive is coming off its greatest season in school history, posting an overall record of 18-2 and winning the Conference Carolinas regular season title with a perfect 8-0 mark. The Trojans swept through the conference tournament for their second conference championship in the last three years.
Mount Olive enters the 2015 season ranked No. 24 in the ITA Division II Preseason Poll. The ranking is the highest in school history, eclipsing the No. 25 ranking in the final poll of 2014.
The Trojans are led by three-time All-Conference first team selection and 2014 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year Edgar Bub. The Trojans also bring back Matt Finnerty, who was named Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament. Henric Falkenberg and Stan Roffe also earned all-conference honors last year.
Following a 13-5 finish a season ago, the Pfeiffer men's tennis team enters the 2015 spring season picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll. The Falcons will have to replace last season's Player of the Year in Loic Minery, but Pfeiffer boasts the necessary depth to do just that.
Axel Woerner and Sebastian Wernecke were selected to the Third Team All-Conference in 2014 and are poised to build off that performance. Woerner went 10-6 playing predominately second singles, while Wernecke was strong in first doubles play, posting a record of 14-3. 6-6 junior Oscar Van Koch will also be a big contributor after sitting out last season as part of his transfer.
Limestone College men's tennis has been picked to finish third in the 2015 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Preseason poll as selected upon the league head coaches. The Saints return only one All-Conference selection, but head coach Alan Ferguson boasts a veteran squad that will challenge for the league title.
Returning from last season is All-Conference member Stefano Soares, senior Benji Lascari Diaz and sophomore Giacomo Campus who have a combined singles record of 42-14. Even more impressive is that three of them combined for an incredible 21-3 mark in league action. Senior Lucas Guinski also returns after posting a solid 10-8 record from his No. 2 singles position.
Barton finished fourth in the poll with North Greenville fifth followed by King, Erskine, Lee-McRae, and Belmont Abbey College respectively rounding-out the poll standings.
