Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams Announced For Men's Tennis

High Point, N.C. - The Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams were determined for participating league institutions.  Individual awards were also named for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, All-Conference Second Team and All-Conference Third Team.  Awards were presented at the league tennis team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships co-hosted by Erskine College and the Palmetto Park Tennis Complex in Sumter, S.C.  This year's award winners are as follows:

Player of the Year:

Matt Finnerty

 

Matt Finnerty is ranked No. 38 in the nation in the ITA Division II men's singles rankings. Finnerty was a perfect 18-0 in regular season conference play in 2015, posting matching 9-0 records at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles. He posted a singles win against Division I East Carolina and was part of a doubles win against Division I Campbell. Finnerty went unbeaten in singles and doubles against Division II opponents, winning all of his singles matches in straight sets.

 
 

Freshman of the Year:

Tom Wagemans, Limestone

 

A mid-year enrollee, Tom Wagemans (Quenast, Brabant, Belgium) didn't take long to become acclimated to his new country and teammates on his way to earning Conference Carolinas Freshman of Year. After playing predominantly NCAA Division I opponents at the beginning of the season, Wagemans got rolling when the schedule turned over to league play where he complied an impressive 9-1 record from the No. 5 singles position. Then in doubles he and partner Benji Lascari Diaz split time between the second and third positions to post a 8-2 mark.

 

Coach of the Year:

Kevin Coghill

 

Kevin Coghill wins Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. Under Coach Coghill, University of Mount Olive won its second straight regular season conference title and went unbeaten in conference play for the second consecutive year. Including last year's conference tournament, the Trojans have won 21 consecutive matches against Conference Carolinas opponents. Mount Olive has been ranked as high as No. 24 this season in the ITA Division II Men's Tennis National Poll.
