All-Conference Softball Honors Announced for 2015

High Point, N.C. – Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams were determined by vote from each softball head coach of participating league institutions.  Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second Team.  Awards were presented at the Conference Carolinas softball team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by The City of Burlington at Springwood Park, in Burlington, NC.  This year's award winners are as follows:

 

Player of the Year:

Chrissy Melcher, King

King University's Chrissy Melcher, earns first team all-conference honors for the third time in her career and garners player of the year honors for the first time. In conference play this season, the senior ranked third in the league in each home runs (6), runs batted in (19) and total bases (48) while lacing two triples to rank her second. On the season she is hitting .306, but in Conference Carolinas play she owns a .383 batting average. Overall, her nine home runs on the season land her second in the conference and her 72 total bases are good enough for sixth while her slugging percentage of .595 ranks ninth in the league. The Orlando, Fla., native also is near the top of the league in runs scored, ranking fourth with 32 runs. Melcher has posted nine multiple hit games and six multiple RBI games. She posted her longest hitting streak of the season, 14 games at the end of March and has registered a hit in each of her last five games leading up to the Conference Carolinas Tournament. 

Pitcher of the Year:

Madison Johnston, Mount Olive

Madison Johnston recorded 12 consecutive wins during the second half of the regular season. Johnston enters the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 15-4 record for a .789 winning percentage. She leads the conference in wins and ranks fourth in the conference with a 2.47 earned run average. In conference play, Johnston was a perfect 7-0 with five complete games and a 1.95 earned run average.

 

Freshman of the Year:

Sloane McPeak, Belmont Abbey

Sloane McPeak is the first player in school history to earn Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors. The third baseman led the league in RBIs and hits and was second in home runs. A two time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week performer, McPeak closed the regular season with a .427 average with nine home runs, ten doubles and 44 RBI with a .710 slugging percentage.

 

Coach of the Year:

Brooke La Sage, Belmont Abbey

Brooke Le Sage is Belmont Abbey's first Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year selection since the 2005 season. Picked to finish second to last in the preseason coaches poll, Le Sage guided the Crusaders to 14 league wins, an 11 game turnaround from last season as she led the Crusaders to a third place finish, the highest since 2006. The 14 conference wins equaled the total of the previous three seasons combined. The 14 wins included 5 doubleheader sweeps. Le Sage's coached two first team selections this year, the first Crusader to earn first team honors since 2009 and the first time with multiple players since 2006. The five all-conference selections are the most since 2006.
