Conference Carolinas Announces All-Conference Women’s Lacrosse Honors
High Point, N.C. - Conference Carolinas All-Conference Women’s Lacrosse Teams were determined by vote from each head coach of participating institutions. Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine First Team, Second Team, Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year award winners. Awards were presented at the Conference Tournament Championship Semifinals hosted by Limestone College as the top seed in this year’s tournament. This year's award winners are as follows:
Player of the Year:
Sam McCarrick, Limestone
Now a four-time All-Conference Carolinas performer, Sam McCarrick caps off her Limestone career as the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year. A senior from Oswego, N.Y., McCarrick finished the regular season tied for second with 62 total points overall. Her 28 goals in conference play were the most in the league, and she showed great versatility by winning 53 draw controls, picking up 34 ground balls and causing 15 turnovers in all games. Her 188 career goals and counting rank third all-time at Limestone, and her 50-goal mark this season is just three behind her 53-goal campaign in 2013. Throughout her four-year career, the Saints are a perfect 34-0 against conference foes and 69-7 overall when McCarrick makes an appearance on the field.
Defender of the Year:
Jessica Riggall, Limestone
Jessica Riggall has been named the league's best defensive player after an incredible rookie season with the Saints. A junior college transfer, Riggall made an immediate impact on Limestone’s defense and led the league this season with 36 caused turnovers, including 20 in Conference Carolinas play. Her 2.25 caused turnovers per game ranks sixth nationally, and 36 total stands fourth. Riggall also picked up 43 ground and 11 draw controls to go along with two goals and an assist from her defensive position.
Freshman of the Year:
Shannon Sisk, Limestone
Shannon Sisk tallied six points in her first career game as a Saint back in February and never looked back. The newcomer from Brooklin, Ontario has racked up 48 assists already this season, placing her fifth all-time in a single season at Limestone. That number also ranks fifth nationally, and her 62 total points are tied for second overall in the conference. Perhaps her most impressive stat, Sisk leads the way in Conference Carolinas with 45 points in league play, and her 48 total assists are 14 more than the next closest number.
Coach of the Year:
Scott Tucker, Limestone
For the second straight year and eighth time ever, Limestone College head women's lacrosse coach Scott Tucker has been named the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year. The Saints went undefeated in conference play for the sixth straight season and carry a 45-game win streak in league play into the conference tournament. Tucker’s Saints are averaging 17.88 goals per game in Conference Carolinas play to just a 3.25 goals against average. Limestone is 14-2 overall and once again ranked top 10 nationally.
