Anthony Dimino Selected By New York Mets In 28th Round Of Major League Baseball Draft

Belmont Abbey junior catcher Anthony Dimino was selected by the New York Mets in the 28th round, #839 overall, of the 2015 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

Dimino is the ninth player in school history to be selected in the draft, and is the third Crusader in as many years.

His selection marks the first time in school history that the Crusaders have had three players drafted in three straight seasons.

Dimino, a first team all-conference selection and a two time all-region selection by three different organiztions, led the league and was fourth nationally with a .452 average, which included a .437 clip in league play. He added 18 doubles, one triple and 47 RBI.

He opened the season with a 23 game hitting streak, which included 13 multi-hit games. His .452 average was 103 points higher than last season's total.

Dimino has one season of eligibility remaining if he chooses not to sign with the Mets.




Jason Morozowski, Hunter Barnett, and Gunnar Kines Selected In The 2015 MLB Draft

The University of Mount Olive had three Trojans selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. Jason Morzowski, Hunter Barnett, and Gunnar Kines all heard their names called. Jason Morozowski was the first selection in the 13th round of the by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hunter Barnett was drafted in the 34th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Gunnar Kines was the final name called as he was drafted in the 36th round by the Miami Marlins.

Morozowski was the 376th pick overall and the first in four selections from the state of North Carolina in the 13th round. A junior from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Morozowski was a consensus All-America First Team selection. Morozowski was named to the First Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Daktronics (College Sports Information Directors of America) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

The Trojan centerfielder was also named to the NCWBA Division II Baseball All-Southeast Region Team and the NCCSIA All-State First Team. He was the 2015 Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Year. He narrowly missed winning the Conference Carolinas Triple Crown, leading the conference with 21 home runs and 82 runs batted in, and ranking second with a .424 batting average. Nationally, Morozowski ranks third in rbi's and eighth in home runs.

Kines a senior from Myrtle Beach, S.C. earned All-America Honorable Mention from the NCBWA. Kines was the 2015 Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Year. The left hander was also named to the NCWBA Division II Baseball All-Southeast Region Team He posted a 9-2 record with a 3.26 earned run average. He ranks third in the nation with 121 strikeouts this season. Kines will have a friend in the Marlins organization. Former Trojan and National Pitcher and Player of the year Carter Capps currently pitches in the bullpen for Mami.

Barnett a Junior from LaGrange, N.C. spent most of his time on the mound in relief for the Trojans. The south paw finished the year with a 3-1 record in 17 appearances and had 21 strikeouts.

Morozowski, Barnett, and Kines follow a long list of Trojans who have been drafted. Mount Olive has had a Trojan drafted in each of the last 11 years. Most recently Jay Gonzales and Deshorn Lake were drafted in the 2014 MLB draft.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS DRAFT ADAM BOGHOSIAN IN 22ND ROUND OF MLB DRAFT

Washington, D.C.—NGU closer Adam Boghosian became the first North Greenville player ever Major League Baseball draft pick on Wednesday afternoon as the Washington Nationals selected the senior transfer with the 674th overall pick.

Boghosian, or Bogo, as he was known throughout the clubhouse, burst onto the scene in Tigerville with a plus fastball from the right side. The closer finished the season second in Division II baseball with 13 total saves.

He wrapped up 2015 with a 1.53 earned run average, holding opponents to a .158 average at the dish. He allowed just 11 runs all season, only five of which were earned. The hurler struck out 39 batters on the season and allowed 16 hits in 29.1 innings pitched.
