Belmont Abbey's Schellenberg Named Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, KY. – Belmont Abbey outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DII Women Player of the Week, the association announced Tuesday.

Schellenberg, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., led the Crusaders to a 3-1 record on the week by tallying 88 kills, digging 48 balls and notching three double-doubles. On Sept. 15, She registered 27 kills and 17 digs in a 3-2 conference win over King. Three days later, she would knock home 20 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over conference foe Emmanuel (Ga.). On Sept. 19, she would turn in two impressive performances against Montevallo and GRU Augusta, as she tallied 24 kills and nine digs in a 3-2 win over Montevallo and 17 kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 loss to GRU Augusta.

For the year, Schellenberg has 230 kills and 168 digs. She is ranked second nationally in kills and total attacks (614) and is fifth in kills per set (4.69) and tenth in points per set (5.0).

Earlier this season, she recorded her 1,000th career dig, becoming the first player in Belmont Abbey school history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-Mcrae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
