Limestone College's Kearse Tabbed USBWA National Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO. (USBWA) – Jasmine Kearse of Limestone College was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Women's Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending January 10. 

Kearse earned Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 7 Saints to a 3-0 record by averaging 24.3 points, four rebounds, four assists and 2.7 steals per game. 

In a 83-68 rout of Lees-McRae on Jan. 5, Kearse tied a school record after pouring in a career-high 44 points. She would add three rebounds and five steals to her game totals. She would follow her performance up with 14 points, five boards and five assists in the Saints' 86-60 win over Mount Olive on Jan. 8. The following day against Barton, Kearse would drop 15 points and dish six assists to close out the week with a 95-33 win.

Kearse has been instrumental in the Saints being ranked No. 7 in the nation, while sitting atop of the Conference Carolinas standings at 12-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play. She ranks first in Conference Carolinas with 21.8 points per game, total steals (44) and made three-point FG (53).

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season. Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
