Belmont Abbey College's Bethel Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey forward Gabrielle Bethel has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 11-17, the conference announced today.
A junior from Fayetteville, N.C., Bethel had a remarkable week for the Crusaders as she shot 90 percent from the field and averaged a double-double with 22.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. Bethel's performance propelled Belmont Abbey to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Southern Wesleyan and Barton.
Against Southern Wesleyan on Jan. 13 Bethel would miss her lone two shots of the week. the forward would shoot 9-for-11 from the field and score 23 points while pulling down 10 rebounds, which included eight offensive boards. In an encore against Barton on Jan. 16, Bethel would go a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and finish the game with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Behtel, who shoots a league-best 60.1 percent from the field, ranks first in Conference Carolinas with 10.5 rebounds per game and fifth in points per game with a 14.8 average.
