Pfeiffer University Tabbed to Win 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University Falcons were named the favorite to win the 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship, the league announced today. The Falcons earned 74 points and five first-place votes from the conference coaches.

Pfeiffer finished the 2015 campaign with an appearance in the Conference Carolinas Semifinals and an 15-8 overall record and 7-3 Conference Carolinas mark.

Mount Olive was selected second in the poll by coaches, receiving 70 points and two first-place votes. The Trojans finished 2015 with a sweep of the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships and made an appearance in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. Mount Olive posted a 18-4 overall record and perfect 10-0 Conference Carolinas record.

Limestone was tabbed third with 68 points and two first-place votes. The Saints turned in a 9-1 conference record in 2015 and a 12-6 overall record.

Barton enters 2016 picked fourth after receiving 64 points, while North Greenville and King were tabbed fifth and sixth with 49 and 47 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs went 13-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play in 2015. The Crusaders of North Greenville turned in an 8-13 campaign with a 6-4 Conference Carolinas record. The Tornado compiled a 6-12 record and went 5-5 conference play.

Placing seventh was Belmont Abbey with 40 points, followed by Erskine at eighth with 30 points. Lees-McRae closed out the poll with 26 points. 

The Crusaders of Belmont Abbey concluded 2015 at 9-16 and 3-7 in conference play. The Flying Fleet wrapped up 2015 with a 4-14 overall record and 3-7 Conference Carolinas mark. The Bobcats went 6-14 overall and 3-7 in conference.

The 2016 Conference Carolinas men's tennis season begins on Friday, Jan. 29.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-Mcrae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
